Introduction to network security, including policy, malicious code, intrusion detection, prevention, response, cryptographic protocols for privacy and integrity, tradeoffs between risk of misuse, cost of prevention, and societal issues.
The student will be able to:
Explain foundational computer security concepts, definitions, and proven theorems in various networked environments.
Analyze selected security models for application in selected computer contexts.
Comprehend the foundational mathematics of cryptography, including discrete mathematics and probability theory.
Identify the various topologies, standards, technologies and protocols employed in secured systems
Discuss the federal guidelines, policies and procedures that govern information security
Compare the current industry threats, risks, malicious activities, covert methodology and unconventional tactics that may be deployed against a system.
